God loves the children.
I have been given a gift that even the Angels have not been provided with.
I have been given tomorrow…
And I have been reflecting on that today.
You see, the Angels – being created in a superior spiritual state – are more similar to god in their more perfect imitation of the Divine Nature of God. This is not to say that Angels are Divine and therefore gods; rather it is to say that Angels can see and understand and know and love God more completely than humans can, and because of this, they are able to make decisions that are better informed than a human decision because they can more clearly – though still imperfectly – see God Himself. And seeing God more perfectly than a human soul could do, the Angels are able to work harder to stay near to Him and the remain in a state of Grace under His perfect love and protection.
Now, because the Angels have a better view of God and a better intellect and a better understanding of God, they have less chances to make decisions and to choose their actions. In other words, because the Angels better understand the consequences of their decisions – because they can more clearly see those consequences, having been closer to God the entire time – they are able to be held to a higher standard than a mere human soul.
Now, the important thing to remember is that the standard that an Angel is held to does not translate to greater purity. You see, only perfectly purified souls have the opportunity to stand in the presence of God. Impure souls – stained by sin – will choose not to remain in God’s presence because they will understand that they are unworthy and that shame will cause them to turn away from God. This is why we have been given the gift of Purgatory – so that we can suffer to atone for our sins – even after our death.
But – even more than Purgatory – we weak human souls have been given the gift of tomorrow. We have been given tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. We have been given a chance to try again and approach it differently. We have been given a chance to attempt it a second time and to improve and grow and learn from our mistakes.
And God has allowed us such a thing for love of us. He has allowed that we shall make mistakes. He has allowed that we shall offend Him over and over and over again – just so that He has allowed us to give ourselves time to improve and grow and learn. And God has done this knowing full well that we are likely to make mistakes over and over again and offend Him over and over again.
And the Angels – who were more perfect than us – were given one chance, one shot at choosing God. He asked them ONCE to follow His Holy Will. And ONCE is all they got. There was no tomorrow for them. And this is not because He loves them less than us, it is because He loves the little things – the small and the weak. He loves the children.
And today, I give thanks because I am little and only a mere child to my God…
For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
