I am a daughter of the Father, a sister of the Son and a Temple of the Holy Spirit.I carry the Most Blessed Trinity inside my very soul.

The Holy Trinity (Muraz Martin)

When Saint Josemaría was only a very young man, he felt a strong calling to institute Opus Dei. In essence, Opus Dei is a movement within the Catholic Church where people aim to live holiness through their daily work. For example, people will offer the trials of their day in atonement for sin, or they will perform the work of their occupation with diligence and humility being mindful of God.

When he was a young priest, the Saint visited his friend, who was sick in bed with a fever. And as he was visiting, Saint Josemaría explained his new vocation and initiative to his friend including the work that his apostolate would do. His friend asked him how he was planning to do such a thing, in other words, by what means was he planning to complete this task. Saint Josemaría responded that his means “…are the ones that Peter and Paul had, and Dominic and Francis, and Ignatius and Xavier: the Crucifix and the Gospel. Are they insufficient for you?”

And I have been reflecting on that response. You see, Saint Josemaría was not afraid of the magnitude of the task he had before him. For he understood the power of the Holy Spirit, who could work all things through His purpose. And he carried that knowledge throughout the whole of his life. Later, when Saint Josemaría wished to send people out into a foreign country to complete apostolic work he would tell them, “My children, I'm sorry I can't give you any material help. I give you the best I have: a crucifix, a picture of Our Lady and my blessing.”

And he was right. Nothing else was needed… And I believe this because my Beloved told me so – twenty centuries ago… “And He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal. And He said to them, ‘Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.’ And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.” (Luke 9:1-6).

And it occurs to me today, that when I take nothing with me for the journey, I am in fact, taking the only thing that I need. For I am a daughter of the Father, a sister of the Son and a Temple of the Holy Spirit. I carry the Most Blessed Trinity inside my very soul. And when I remember that, I know that I truly have nothing to fear…

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
