Fofty-Dollars

“God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31).

Genesis (Noreen Schumann)

God loves me. He loves you. He loves the world.

And I know this with certainty because God tells me so…

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him... This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:16-21).

God made the world and God is perfect. He made the world not because He had any need of the world – for God is complete and perfect in and of Himself. Rather, God made the world out of love for us. He wanted to share His infinite love with us and it is for this reason that He made the world. And I have been reflecting on that today, because although the world is imperfect and is fallen due to sin, God made it perfectly…

“God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31).

And I have been reflecting on this idea that the world is perfectly beautiful because God tells us that it is so.

And that has caused me to reflect on value – true value… You see, a fifty-dollar note is a fifty-dollar note and worth fifty-dollars whether it is fresh from the mint and in pristine condition or whether it is crumpled up, used and a little bit dirty. And that is pretty much like the world.

You see the world was created in perfect condition, like a fifty-dollar note fresh out of the mint. And there – in that moment when the world was made everything was perfect…

And then, we ruined it. We sinned and disobeyed God’s Will and we crumpled the fifty-dollar note. But even though it is crumpled and dirty and a little bit worn and torn now, God still sees the value in the world just like I still see the value in a crumpled old fifty-dollar note.

And for the value in the world – for the LOVE that God has for the world – He allowed His only Son to be sacrificed for love of us…

And I have been thinking about that as I have been reflecting on the wonders of the world that God has given to us. You see, God so loved all the souls in this crumpled old world that He died for love of us – not because we deserve it – but because He can see value in small and sinful miserable souls like mine. And that value does not exist because of anything that a little soul like mine could ever do. He can see that value because of what He can do – not what I can do.

And I have been thinking about that today, as I spend my fifty-dollar notes…

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
