“In these last times in which we live, the Most Holy Virgin has given a new power to the recitation of the Holy Rosary.” (Sister Lucia of Fatima).
The Holy Rosary is a powerful prayer.
The Holy Rosary is a repeated incantation of the moment of the Incarnation during the Annunciation and the recognition of the Mother of God in the words of the Visitation. And this occurs through the recitation of the Hail Marys. And it is a repeated imitation of Christ’s instruction on how we should pray to the Father through the repeated recitation of the Our Father. And then there is the Glory Be to worship the Trinity, and O My Jesus prayers that were added by the Angel at Fatima when Our Lady of Fatima appeared to the three little shepherd Saints.
“The angel said to Mary, ‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!’ But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.’” (Luke 1:26-38).
And all of these prayers are recited with the life of Christ firmly in mind. And it is not only the life of Christ, but the life of Christ considered through the perspective of the Blessed Virgin. And this is critical. Because this means that the Blessed Virgin is the eyes through which we consider the sacrifices of Christ…
And this is important to God because He sent His Blessed Mother SIX times to Fatima to say recite the Rosary daily…
Sister Lucia of Fatima, who is due to be Canonised as a Saint of the Holy Church (she was one of the shepherd children of Fatima) said, “In these last times in which we live, the Most Holy Virgin has given a new power to the recitation of the Holy Rosary. There is no problem that cannot be solved by the Rosary; no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all, spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, or even of the life of peoples and nations.”
When Saint Bernadette saw the Blessed Virgin at Lourdes, she immediately pulled out her Rosary beads and began to pray. And as she prayed, the Blessed Virgin moved the beads between her own fingers in silence (not reciting the prayers to herself) but when the child reached the Glory Bes, the Blessed Virgin recited those prayers with the child.
And I have been thinking about that today… The vision of that Lady giving Glory to God. For it occurs to me that since she prays as I am supposed to pray, that is perhaps the most wonderful thing in the world to ever behold…
For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
